Thomas Cook Airlines Airbus A330-200 G-MDBD Model, 1:400 Scale
The 1:400-scale model of the Thomas Cook Airlines Airbus A330-200 G-MDBD recreates a real British long-haul airliner with an interesting operational history. The aircraft, with manufacturing serial number MSN 266, was manufactured in 1999 and was originally delivered to Airtours International Airways. It later flew for Garuda Indonesia and MyTravel Airways, and joined the Thomas Cook Airlines fleet in 2008.
This particular G-MDBD was an Airbus A330-243 variant and was equipped with two powerful Rolls-Royce Trent 772B-60 engines. The aircraft was used primarily on long-haul routes, particularly to transport tourists between the United Kingdom and resorts in the Caribbean and North America.
Particular attention is drawn to the Thomas Cook livery, featuring yellow engines, large lettering on the fuselage, and a heart symbol on the tail. This design was introduced following an update to the travel group’s corporate identity in 2013.
After Thomas Cook’s bankruptcy in September 2019, the aircraft remained in Manchester, and in February 2021, it was dismantled. This miniature model preserves the appearance of this airliner and will be an interesting addition to any collection of historic passenger aircraft and defunct airlines.
