SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A340-300 Model, 1:400 Scale
This 1:400-scale model of the SAS Scandinavian Airlines Airbus A340-300 (OY-KBM) is dedicated to one of the Scandinavian airline’s most famous long-haul aircraft. This airliner, with factory number MSN 450, was registered as OY-KBM and named Astrid Viking. It joined the SAS fleet in February 2002 and became part of the airline’s history of intercontinental flights.
A distinctive feature of the aircraft was its special Star Alliance livery, created to promote the international aviation alliance. The white fuselage with large Star Alliance lettering, the black tail fin with the alliance’s pentagonal symbol, and the red SAS engines gave the aircraft its recognizable appearance.
The Airbus A340-300 was equipped with four CFM56 turbofan engines and was used for long-haul international flights. Interestingly, OY-KBM was the last Airbus A340 in the SAS fleet. In December 2020, the aircraft was sent to the U.S. for storage, bringing to a close nearly two decades of service for this model with the airline.
