On June 28, 2014, Boeing ceremonially handed over the commemorative airliner to Germany’s Lufthansa at its plant in Everett, Washington. It became the fourteenth Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental in the airline’s fleet and was named Nordrhein-Westfalen in honor of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia.
To commemorate this historic event, a special emblem bearing the number 1,500 was placed on the tail section of the aircraft. This design is reproduced on the model alongside the classic Lufthansa livery, the airline’s large logo, and the distinctive blue wingtip.
