British Airways / Negus 100th Anniversary Boeing 747-400 Model G-CIVB
The Boeing 747-400 with registration G-CIVB was one of four aircraft to receive a commemorative livery for British Airways’ centennial in 2019. The airline chose the “Negus” livery—its first since the merger of BOAC and BEA in 1974. After being repainted in Dublin, the aircraft returned to London Heathrow on March 21, 2019.
The anniversary aircraft recreated an early version of the Negus livery used from 1974 to 1980. The white upper fuselage, dark blue lower section, and red-and-blue tail design featuring the Union Jack brought the look of 1970s aviation back to regular flights. The livery’s name comes from the design agency Negus & Negus.
G-CIVB itself joined the British Airways fleet in February 1994, by which time the company was already using a different livery. Therefore, the Negus livery on this Boeing 747-400 is a commemorative retro version, rather than a restoration of its original appearance. This is an important distinction for collectors who track the history of specific aircraft.
