1:250 Scale Model of the KLM Boeing 747-200 Mississippi Blue PH-BUA
The KLM Boeing 747-200, registered as PH-BUA and named Mississippi, was the first aircraft of the 747 family in the Dutch carrier’s fleet. It arrived at Schiphol Airport on January 31, 1971, and marked the beginning of a new era in intercontinental travel. This model depicts this historic aircraft in its later livery, featuring a blue upper fuselage.
The Mississippi’s exterior changed over the course of its service. Initially, the aircraft had a white upper fuselage and only three windows on each side of the upper deck. In 1980, the number of these windows was increased to ten. It is precisely this configuration that is reproduced in the miniature shown here. Despite differences in livery and details, the registration PH-BUA belongs to the same airliner.
The blue fuselage is complemented by a dark blue stripe along the main row of windows, a narrow white stripe, and a gray lower section. The KLM logo with a crown is located on the white fuselage, and the name “Mississippi” is painted near the nose. The four engines, swept-back wings without wingtips, and short upper deck capture the characteristic proportions of the classic Boeing 747-200.
