Aviationtag Lufthansa Airbus A340-600 D-AIH Keychain Made from Aircraft Skin
The Aviationtag Lufthansa Airbus A340-600 D-AIHE is not just an aviation-themed design—it’s an authentic piece of aircraft skin from a plane that carried passengers on Lufthansa’s long-haul routes for many years. Each keychain is cut from the original material of aircraft D-AIHE, which was nicknamed “Leverkusen.”
The history of D-AIHE is unique even among other Lufthansa A340s. The aircraft was part of the IAGOS-CARIBIC scientific program and effectively combined the role of a passenger airliner with that of a flying laboratory. From 2004 to March 2020, it completed approximately 500 measurement flights: during regular Lufthansa flights, specialized equipment collected data on atmospheric composition and climatic processes at cruising altitudes.
In 2020, D-AIHE was taken out of active service and sent to Teruel, Spain, for storage. In 2025, the aircraft was scrapped, but part of its fuselage was preserved to create the official Aviationtag x Lufthansa series. Thus, the metal that was part of a genuine A340-600 for approximately 16 years now exists as a collectible aviation artifact.
The D-AIHE series is a limited edition of 8,500 pieces and is an official part of the Aviationtag x Lufthansa collection. It is an item with a documented provenance, a specific aircraft registration, and an extraordinary history that combines Lufthansa’s long-haul aviation with many years of scientific research into the atmosphere.
