Antonov An-26Sh keychain
On July 25, 1977, this An-26Sh airplane took off for the first time. Put into service with the Soviet Air Force shortly thereafter, it was by no means an ordinary An-26. This airplane (serial number 5304) was specially designed to train new navigators who were entering the ranks of the Air Force. It was a rare modification of the aircraft, only one of 36 produced at the Kyiv Aviation Plant Aviant (Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, part of the former USSR).
This AN-26Sh was part of the fleet of the Luhansk Higher Military Aviation School of Navigators. It was assigned to the 46th Training Regiment and had the military designation “28 Red”.
Shortly afterwards, the 28 Red was awarded the title of “Excellent Aircraft,” which was reflected in the markings with a red emblem on both sides of the cockpit. This title was awarded only to the best aircraft of the regiment, which had to meet strict criteria of serviceability and flight hours during duty.
A reliable workhorse, this aircraft served the Soviet and later Ukrainian air forces well, providing excellent training for a large number of air force graduates until the late 1990s, when it finally retired at the Zaporizhzhia International Airport.
In total, the aircraft logged 4072 flight hours and completed 2758 cycles before being acquired by Zaporizhzhia-based Constanta Airlines in 2019.
In March 2021, the Fuselage Creations team was able to acquire some of the fuselage panels of this legendary aircraft to preserve it for aviation enthusiasts around the world.
