KAB 500M-62 bomb keychain
KAB stands for “corrected aircraft bomb”. These are outdated Soviet-era bombs with retractable wings and a guidance system. Recently, the Russians have modernized a number of bombs in service, including 500-, 1500-, and 3000-kilogram models, which are abbreviated as “KAB.”
This weapon has proven to be extremely effective for the enemy, as it can be launched from various platforms, such as SU-30 and SU-35, and most often from SU-34. What makes these bombs extremely dangerous and deadly is that they cannot be intercepted in the air. Once they are dropped, they fly for only 70 seconds or less and appear as small dots on radar before disappearing.
But the Ukrainians are constantly proving and demonstrating their ability to adapt and move forward. The recent introduction of F-16 fighter jets and the Western Patriot air defense system poses a significant threat and obstacle to Russian aircraft launching the KAB, and affects their accuracy and effectiveness.
The ongoing war in Ukraine is a war of constant development, adaptation and improvement of technology, which we hope will make the KAB a threat of the past.
