This keychain made from MiG-25RBS fuselage skin is an authentic fragment of one of the most famous supersonic aircraft of the 20th century. The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 Foxbat was designed as an interceptor and reconnaissance aircraft and remains one of the fastest military aircraft ever to have been in service. It could reach speeds exceeding Mach 3 and still holds the world record for the highest altitude reached by a piloted aircraft with an air-cooled engine—125,000 feet (38 kilometers).

Unlike most Soviet Air Force aircraft, the MiG-25 was not used in standard aviation formations. It was operated by the Soviet Union’s air defense forces. This aircraft was designed not only for reconnaissance but also to defend airspace against high-altitude targets—specifically U-2 reconnaissance aircraft and strategic bombers such as the B-52.

This particular aircraft tag was taken from an early MiG-25RBS, also known as the Foxbat-D. The aircraft was equipped with the Shablya all-around radar system, whose antennas were mounted on the left and right sides of the nose. It was a high-altitude radar optimized for operation at altitudes ranging from 17 to 24 kilometers. The system could scan a swath of terrain up to 25 kilometers wide at a range of approximately 42–47 kilometers, making the aircraft extremely effective for aerial reconnaissance.

The specific aircraft from which this keychain was made had the serial number 51001009. It began its service with the 48th Separate Guards Reconnaissance Aviation Regiment at the Kolomyia Air Base in the Carpathians, which at the time were part of the Ukrainian SSR. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, the aircraft was transferred to the Kyiv Higher Military Aviation Engineering School, where it was used as a ground-based training model for training engineers and technical personnel.

In the early 2000s, after the MiG-25 was finally retired from service with the Ukrainian Air Force, the aircraft was transferred to the Oleg Antonov State Aviation Museum. During the restoration of the vertical stabilizer, the team at Fuselage Creations was able to preserve a section of the skin and transform it into commemorative keychains. That is why this keychain is not just an accessory, but a real piece of aviation history that allows you to literally touch a legend.
