The Su-27 Flanker is a fourth-generation Soviet heavy multi-role, highly maneuverable, all-weather fighter. It was designed to gain air superiority. Developed by the Sukhoi Design Bureau, its operation in the air force began in 1985, but it was officially adopted only in 1990.
The Su-27, together with the MiG-29, is the main fighter aircraft of the Ukrainian Air Force and is used to fight enemy aircraft, helicopters and cruise missiles in the air, as well as to destroy ground (sea) targets.
