Handley Page Victor XL158 & Avro Vulcan XH558 — Two Legendary British Aircraft
Handley Page Victor XL158
The Handley Page Victor was one of three famous British V-bombers developed as part of the UK’s nuclear deterrent during the Cold War. Thanks to its futuristic design and cutting-edge technical solutions, the Victor is considered one of the most recognizable British military aircraft of the 20th century. After the Polaris missiles entered service, some of the aircraft were converted for new missions, notably as aerial refueling tankers.
It was in the role of a refueling aircraft that the Victor gained worldwide fame during Operation Black Buck in the Falklands War, providing in-flight refueling for Vulcan bombers during their long-range combat missions.
This item is made from the nose landing gear door of a Victor B.2 XL158. The aircraft served with the 139th Squadron and the Victor Training Flight, and in 1970 was converted into a K.2 tanker. After being retired in 1993, certain parts of the aircraft were preserved by a British aviation enthusiast, and in 2023, the landing gear door was acquired by the Fuselage Creations team to give this historic aircraft a new life in the form of collectible items.
Avro Vulcan XH558
The Avro Vulcan became the most famous member of the British V-Bomber family and a true icon of British military aviation. Thanks to its distinctive delta-shaped wing, the aircraft had a unique appearance that remains one of the most recognizable among the world’s strategic bombers to this day.
Originally designed as a nuclear weapons carrier, the Vulcan demonstrated its ability to perform conventional combat missions during the Falklands War. It was the Vulcan that participated in the famous Black Buck operations, which became some of the longest combat sorties in the history of military aviation.
This model is crafted from parts of the legendary Vulcan B.2 XH558—the most famous aircraft of its type. After serving with the Royal Air Force, XH558 joined the RAF Vulcan Display Flight and delighted airshow visitors for decades. After an extensive restoration, the aircraft returned to the skies in 2007 and remained the only airworthy Vulcan in the world until its final flight in 2015.
Today, XH558 is housed at Doncaster Airport, where a group of enthusiasts keeps the aircraft in working order for taxiing and regular engine runs, preserving the legacy of one of the most remarkable British bombers of all time.
