The Hawker Siddeley Nimrod became one of the most famous British maritime patrol aircraft of the Cold War era. It was developed from the de Havilland Comet—the world’s first jet airliner—and adapted for military missions. Throughout their service, Nimrod aircraft carried out anti-submarine operations, maritime patrols, search-and-rescue missions, and surface surveillance. A total of 49 aircraft of all variants were built and modernized, and they remained in service with the Royal Air Force from the early 1970s until 2010.
This keychain is crafted from the wing of a Hawker Siddeley Nimrod MR.2 XV254. The aircraft was built in 1971 as an MR.1 version and upgraded to the MR.2 standard in 1979. It served with the 42nd, 120th, 201st, and 206th Squadrons, as well as with the 236th Crew Training Unit, based at RAF Kinloss and RAF St Mawgan.
After completing its service in 2010, the aircraft was decommissioned. Its nose section was on display for some time at the Highland Aviation Museum and was later transported to the South Wales Aviation Museum. During the transport, Captain Paul Gibbs preserved small fragments of the root section of XV254’s wing, which the team at Fuselage Creations transformed into exclusive keychains. Each keychain contains an authentic piece of the aircraft that defended Britain’s maritime borders for nearly four decades, making this accessory a valuable artifact for collectors and aviation history enthusiasts.
